A huge thank you to David De Santi and the team at Good Tunes for hosting a charity Bush Dance for RAILS! We're so grateful to the dance callers and musicians who generously donated their time to make the night such a success. It was a fantastic evening of fun, music and community spirit, and we're so glad to have been the beneficiary in May.
David De Santi has been bringing people together through folk music for more than 40 years. Based in Brisbane, he is the Artistic Director of the Illawarra Folk Festival and an active performer, organiser and champion of traditional and contemporary folk music. Every month through the cooler months, David hosts the Good Times Community Bush Dance and raises funds for a charitable organisation. In May, RAILS was the beneficiary.
His motivation is beautifully simple: he wanted to find a way for the folk music community to give something back. Charity bush dances proved to be the perfect fit: live music, dancing and fun, all while raising funds for local causes and giving musicians the chance to perform together. “By sharing what we love, the community gets to make a meaningful difference.”
“RAILS helps refugees, migrants and people facing difficult circumstances build new lives and stronger connections. If a love of music and dancing can help support that work, it's a wonderful way to give back.”
Inspired to hold your own fundraiser?
David's advice is simple: “start with something you enjoy and that your community will support. You don't need a big event, bringing people together around a good cause is often all it takes.”
Whether it's a bush dance, a potluck dinner, or a bike ride, every effort counts. Get in touch with us to find out how we can support you. We'd love to cheer you on.
