Citizenship Doors is a legal education program that that gives people from refugee backgrounds the tools they need to apply for Australian citizenship and successfully pass the written citizenship test.
Citizenship Information Sessions
Attending an information session is the first step. A RAILS Education Lawyer will explain the different types of citizenship applications, the rules that need to be met, what documents have to be provided, what dangers you need to look out for and what to expect after your application is lodged.
Sessions are held:
- 2nd Tuesday of every month (except January) at 10am at RAILS' office: Level 3, 43 Peel Street, South Brisbane
- 3rd Wednesday of every month (except December) at 1pm at QPASTT: 84 Wembley Road, Logan Central
The sessions are open to everyone but if you need an interpreter, you must book. Call us on (07) 3846 9300 or email edu@rails.org.au and tell us which session you want to go to, and what language interpreter you need.
Application Workshops
Workshops help people from refugee backgrounds with good English skills to lodge citizenship applications that are free of mistakes and contain all the information and documents needed for them to be processed.
When you attend an application workshop, you will be given a Help-Kit that explains how to answer the questions in your citizenship application. You will fill out the application during the workshop and receive help if you are unsure about any of the questions. You will also get help before the workshop to check your documents and the information in your Home Affairs file.
Workshops are held each month in South Brisbane and Logan. Come to an Information Session (see above) to find out more.
Citizenship in Practice
Many people from refugee backgrounds find the citizenship test difficult. Citizenship in Practice groups can help if you:
- Want to learn about the topics in the test and get better at answering questions about them; or
- Want to improve your English so you can show how much you know about citizenship.
For more information, come to an Information Session or email edu@rails.org.au
