Protection Visa (Subclass 866)

This permanent residency visa gives the right to settlement services, welfare system, family reunion and the right to return to Australia if you leave. This is a visa for people who:

  • have arrived in Australia legally with genuine documents
  • are found to be refugees by the Australian Government
  • meet health and character requirements

The approved application form for a Protection visa, Form 866 - Application for a Protection (Class XA) visa, is not available electronically, but can be obtained from any DIAC office, or if a person is in immigration detention, by asking a departmental officer.
