Woman at Risk (Subclass 204)

This permanent residency visa gives the right to settlement services, welfare system, family reunion and a right of return to Australia if the visa holder leaves. This is a visa for women who:

  • Suffer persecution in their home country and are not living there, or who are registered by the UNHCR as being of concern, and have not spent more than 7 days in a country where they could have obtained protection
  • And are in danger of serious abuse because of being a female who does not have the protection of a male relative
    or
  • This type os visa is also available to applicants who are proposed by a family member who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident and who has been given a Woman at Risk visa. However, a spouse cannot propose the applicant if her visa was granted within the previous 5 years, and at the time the visa was granted she was divorced or permanently separated from the applicant, or the relationship was not declared to the Immigration Department.
