Health Criteria
Almost all visa applicants and their dependent family must be in
good health to be granted a visa.
This is to protect public health and minimise costs to Australia's
health care system.
This health requirement can be waived in some cases.
Health checks include undergoing a medical examination, an x-ray
(for those 11 years or older) and a HIV/AIDS test (for those 15
years or older). The examining doctor may ask you to undergo additional
tests if necessary.
Dependants who are not planning to migrate must also be examined.
If you are pregnant, you are advised not to be x-rayed until after
the birth of your baby,
which means your application may not be finalised until after that.
In Australia health checks are carried out by Health
Services Australia.
If you are refused a visa on health grounds you may be able to
have the decision reviewed.
