RAILS has been approved as a CPD provider by the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority. This is under the new CPD framework for migration agents which took effect from 1 January 2018.
SNAPSHOT OF NEW CPD REGIME FOR MIGRATION AGENTS
A workshop (1 CPD point per hour) – must be facilitated face-to-face or online, be interactive; and has a 30 participant maximum.
A conference, seminar or lecture (1 CPD point per 1.5 hours) – does not need to be interactive and has no participant limit.
Migration Agents must complete 10 CPD points for re-registration. Mandatory requirements are completion of a ‘Practice Ready Programme’ in first year of practice. From the second year, at least 5 ‘Category A’ points (from either workshops, a Programme of Education or the ‘Practice Ready Programme), including 1 CPD point each year on ethics and/ or the Code of Conduct.
Changes to the CPD scheme are contained in Schedule 4 Migration Legislation Amendment (2017 Measures No 1) Regulation 2017 and instrument IMMI 17/047
CPD FOR LEGAL PRACTIONERS
CPD for Queensland lawyers who are migration agents is governed by Queensland Law Society rules. In each CPD year (finishing 31 March) must complete 10 CPD points and at least 1 CPD unit in each of the mandatory core areas: (a) practical legal ethics; (b) practice management and business skills; and (c) professional skills.
